A highly motivated postgraduate student is required to work with the CSIRO Sugarcane Improvement Group on an SRDC-funded project. The group has been conducting research to understand the genetic mechanisms of disease resistance in sugarcane. The student will use genetic analysis to investigate smut resistance in sugarcane. There is an opportunity to combine conventional genetic analysis with cutting edge next-generation sequencing technologies. The position is located at the CSIRO laboratories in St Lucia with the field work carried out at BSES Woodford with the co-supervisor from BSES Ltd. Location: St Lucia, Brisbane Salary: Top-up scholarship of $17,145 per year (tax-free) Tenure: 3 year term Ref No: Q12/04266 The successful candidate must meet the following criteria: -You must have or be applying for an Australian Postgraduate Award; -You must have a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Science or Agriculture; -You must have demonstrated experience in plant science; -You must have a demonstrated ability to communicate in oral and written formats.
